How do I look after my blonde hair?

It can be said that blonde’s have more fun but we must admit it is a huge commitment to have gorgeous blonde hair. To have blonde hair means constant maintenance. Your blonde hair needs lot’s of love and attention to keep it in the best condition it can be. In this article I will give you my top tips to help keep your blonde hair healthy and bright.

1. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture

To achieve our blonde locks our strands of hair have taken a beating. When bleaching the hair we are taking out the moisture and drying it out. This means that anyone who has blonde hair needs moisture. This could be an intense moisture mask, leave in moisturiser cream or leave in moisturiser spray. Try and treat the hair weekly to maintain the health of your hair.

2. Treat it with some purple, but don’t over do it

To keep the yellow tones at bay we really need to ensure that we are regularly washing with a purple shampoo. A purple shampoo is designed to counteract the yellow tones in blonde hair. When using a purple shampoo it is essential to make sure that you are not overusing it. This may mean only using it every 2nd or 3rd wash. Overuse of purple shampoo can dull your blonde and also overtone it making it hard for your hairdresser when they are doing your regrowth. Some toning shampoo’s can be drying so you also need to find one that is also moisturising for your blonde locks. Purple shampoo is not designed to cleanse the hair so you need to cleanse with your regular shampoo first then wash with your purple shampoo.

3. Protect from heat damage

This tip, I must admit is a hard one but heat damage can really hurt your hair making it fragile and brittle. As blonde’s our hair is already compromised and hitting it with your hairdryer, straightener and styling tools constantly is not a great idea. Heat styling will dry out your hair and can also cause breakage and irreversible damage. If you can give your hair a break occasionally by putting your hair in a bun or braid. It deserve’s a mini holiday!

Whenever using you heat tools however a thermal protection spray is a must!

A thermal spray will protect your tresses from heat damage.

4. Avoid Chlorine

If you are lucky enough to be heading away on a tropical holiday make sure you try and keep you blonde hair out of the chlorine. When swimming try and avoid submerging your hair under the water. If you really want to indulge and get it wet in the pool make sure you are using a de-chlorinate shampoo or deep clarifying to gently cleanse out the chlorine.

We also recommend protecting the hair by coating it with product before swimming.

5. Try to minimise washing

I know it sounds odd but frequent washing is stripping out your colour as well as your natural oils. Dry Shampoo can be a great product to help you get a little longer in between washes.

6. Strengthening

It’s also important to ensure you maintain your hairs strength. As we lighten our hair, we are also breaking down the bonds in the hair which can leave it feeling fragile at times. Therefore, it is imperative to use the correct hair care to restore the bonds and maintain the integrity of the hair, keeping it healthy and strong. I recommend using a plex system, or an element of protein.

I hope these tips can help you look after your blonde hair and make you feel like the goddess you are.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
